How do the constituents in lemon essential oil pop a balloon? The oil with the most limonene constituents will pop the balloon the fastest. With all the lemon oils I tested, some popped instantly while other lemon oils took several drops and then some more to finally pop the balloon. According to all the aromatherapy books I've read, limonene is the constituent responsible for the lemon smell in lemons. The lemon oils when frozen give off less lemon smell than at room temperature. (see my video of me popping balloons with frozen lemon oil touching the balloons. This is when I really know when an oil has more limonene and has not been infused to stronger lemon smell when its actually not strong at all because it was grown in bunk soil. I will say that the lemon oils that have the most authentic lemon smell popped the balloons the fastest while the ones that smelled more "lemon-like" mixed with some other smell I don't even have the words for, those popped much slower and some not even at all with just one drop like others.

The two oils that smell the most authentic (one has a lighter lemon smell but super authentic and one has a strong lemon smell but slightly less like 100% lemon popped the balloon the fastest. The balloon test is just one factor when trying to pick out an oil for someone that has a higher or lower level of limonene constituents.
